Do you want to learn Luganda? Are you a student of African languages or do you need to learn Luganda for your work or studies?
Here is an 8-week online Luganda course that will teach you basic Luganda skills. It will give you the confidence to use the language to communicate in everyday situations and help you in your reading listening, writing and speaking skills.
After this course, you can proceed to the pre-intermediate course
Learn basic Luganda vocabulary
This is a basic course for beginners. At the beginning of this course, you will learn what to say when you meet new people, learn to introduce yourself and practice having conversations with Luganda speakers. You will work on your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
It is an online course and by using your computer or smart phone, you will be able to hear people speaking Luganda in different situations. You will test your understanding through quizzes.
Learn Basic Luganda grammar and common phrases
By the end of the course, you will be able to ask simple Luganda questions, talk about friends and family and discuss work and simple activities
You will be able to express your likes and dislikes, hold conversations about everyday activities and write simple letters to your friends. All these activities will improve your confidence in basic Luganda.
You will have a good understanding of basic grammar, including pronouns, tenses and some verbs. Your pronunciation skills will also be put to test.

Margaret Nankinga is the Coordinator of the Luganda/ Lusoga/ Lugwere Vehicular Cross-border Language Commission of the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN-AU).
She is teacher of Luganda, having taught the language at an Advanced level in Uganda schools. She is also in charge of administration and human resource at the Pan African Centre of Cultures and Languages (PACCL) .

Andrew Kirabira is a Linguist and has taught Luganda language to beginners in Rwanda for 10 years. He is currently a lecturer at Uganda Martyrs University.

PART 1
1: Video introducing the course to the learner)

(Greetings - morning, afternoon, night- formal and informal)

c) Activity: Listen and practise speaking what you hear
1.2 Introducing yourself and others

d) Activity: Imagine you are a new student, practise introducing yourself to your class teacher using the word "Nze" (Please begin with greetings before the introduction.)
